Final Flings As The Clock Winds Down
This Saturday was spent with Johnson, Georgie, Jenna and their parents. Johnson and Georgie are second and third graders respectively while Jenna is in kindergarten. They met me in front of Siang-He School at 9:30 a.m. and quite a day was instore for us. After visiting their home and having fruit snack, we headed to Lucao, where I would meet the grandparents and we’d pick-up Johnson who had spent the night with them.
While in Lucao, we walked to the nearby library, where we read some books and from there we walked a very short distance to a museum which housed wonderful handcarved, ornate tools used in writing Chinese script and characters. The museum was a tribute to one of Taiwan’s most talented artist in this craft. Some of the instruments are quite expensive, I was told.
Upon returning to the Grandparents’ home, Jenna played a game of Mahjong with her grandfather. He won the first game and she, the second game. The children’s mother and grandmother were in the kitchen preparing lunch, which proved to be quite a little feast and very tasty. We had to take a walk afterwards and across the street, I visited the school and playground where Johnson, Georgie, and Jenna’s father had attended school.
After our walk, it was decided that we’d go to a park which featured farm animals… cows specifically. This park had feeding areas for calves, milking areas for the guests to try their hand at milking and many other animals. I even saw a couple of HOGS! Brought to mind our University of Arkansas mascot, the Razorback Hog!!!
After leaving the park, we next visited a very large Chiayi County reservoir, which offered a wonderful park area for families to relax by kite flying, picnicing, or just relaxing on a beautiful day in a breezy location.
